Two academic majors are included in this department. One is Plant Pathology and the other is Entomology.

Plant pathology deals with various microbial pathogens infecting plant crops. Viruses, bacteria, and fungi are mainly focused on the study of plant pathology. Furthermore, their molecular interactions with host plants are actively investigated and delivered to MS and PhD candidates.

Entomology is the study of insects and their relationship to humans, the environment, and other organisms. Entomologists make great contributions to diverse human lives in agriculture, chemistry, biology, human/animal health, molecular science, criminology, and forensics. The study of insects serves as the basis for developments in biological and chemical pest control, food and fiber production and storage, pharmaceuticals epidemiology, biological diversity, and a variety of other fields of science.

Career opportunities for our graduates include: national government agencies (Rural Development of Agriculture, Quarantine and Inspection); province departments of agriculture and environment, regional extension service, agrichemical company field representatives, research, and sales; agricultural consulting firms; private agribusiness firms; timber and seed production companies; international development agencies.

Biological surveying activity during an intense period (usually 24 hours) in an attempt to record all the living species within a designated area. Groups of students of plant medicals, scientists, naturalists and volunteers conduct an intensive field study .

GOTAYA was a term referring to Andong area in the Silla period. Every year, students of Plant Medicals of Andong National University introduce the interesting world of insect to the public through the Gotaya exhibition.
